I'm going to share with you a story about an underused and unloved space under the stairs.

Once upon a time, this space was perfect for holding a pushchair, car seat and oodles of baby paraphernalia but for the past few (post-baby) years it had turned into a dumping ground with zero identity or proper purpose.  Our hallway is a generous size. In fact it was the first thing to attract me to the house when I stepped in for the first viewing.  However, it wasn't the most of efficient of spaces for a family of 5.

I have lived in my current house for about 15 years now and had always wanted some 'fancy pull out drawers' to hide the family mess.  Now, I wasn't planning on having any building work done this year and it by sheer accident that I came across a local builder who specialises in making bepsoke storage, including 'fancy pull out drawers' under the stairs.  It did not take much persuasion on my part for my husband to agree with my new plan - yippee!.  Within a month of discussion and quotes we were booked in for the work to commence.  I documented the process by taking photographs daily.  (See below).

It took about 8 days in total to build and paint but, I have to say, this is one of the best investments EVER!  Not only does all the clutter get put & shut away, but my once darkened north-facing hallway appears to be bigger & brighter.  We opted for the door fronts to be painted in white gloss and it really does help bounce the light around.  I LOVE the airy feeling of space that this bespoke build has achieved.  After adding 'Olive', the olive tree I now feel that the entrance to my home has the quintessential modern scandi chic that I crave.
